  • मैथिलीशरण गुप्त की कविता ‘मनुष्यता’ हमें जीवन का सही अर्थ सिखाती है। कवि के अनुसार, मनुष्य मरणशील है, इसलिए हमें मृत्यु से डरना नहीं चाहिए। जो व्यक्ति मरने के बाद भी अपने अच्छे कामों के लिए याद किया जाता है, उसी का जीवन वास्तव में सार्थक है। जो केवल अपने स्वार्थ के लिए जीता है, वह पशु के समान है। सच्चा मनुष्य वही है जो दूसरे मनुष्यों के काम आए।
  • कवि कहते हैं कि परोपकार ही सबसे बड़ी संपत्ति है। जो व्यक्ति दूसरों के दुख को अपना समझता है, उस पर ईश्वर की कृपा सदैव बनी रहती है। इतिहास भी उन्हीं लोगों को याद रखता है जिन्होंने निस्वार्थ भाव से समाज की सेवा की। धन-संपत्ति के अहंकार में कभी नहीं पड़ना चाहिए, क्योंकि यह नश्वर है। इस संसार में कोई भी अनाथ नहीं है, क्योंकि ईश्वर सबकी रक्षा करने के लिए हमेशा साथ हैं। जो व्यक्ति धन के पीछे पागल होकर दूसरों को दुख पहुँचाता है, वह भाग्यहीन है।
  • कवि हमें सलाह देते हैं कि अपने जीवन के लक्ष्य की ओर प्रसन्नतापूर्वक बढ़ें। चलते समय यदि कोई बाधा या मुसीबत आए, तो उसे पार करते हुए आगे बढ़ें। हमें आपसी भाईचारे और एकता के साथ चलना चाहिए ताकि कोई भी पीछे न रहे। यदि हम एकजुट होकर चलेंगे, तो जीवन की राहें आसान हो जाएंगी।
  • हमें यह हमेशा याद रखना चाहिए कि सभी मनुष्य आपस में भाई-बहन हैं। भले ही हमारे कर्मों के कारण बाहर से भेद दिखाई दे, लेकिन अंदर से हम सब एक हैं। एक भाई का यह कर्तव्य है कि वह दूसरे भाई की परेशानी को समझे और उसे दूर करे। अंत में, कवि परोपकार को ही जीवन का मूल आधार मानते हैं। जो दूसरों की सेवा के लिए जीता है, वह कभी नहीं मरता क्योंकि उसकी कीर्ति अमर हो जाती है।
